Literary Salon with Sally Herzfeld

Published on Friday, 3 February 2023 at 12:00:00 AM

A story of adventure and perseverance describing a teacher's days in the outback.  The year is 1956. Sally Gare is twenty. She's just out of teachers' college and has been sent to work at a two-teacher school more than 3000 kilometres from Perth. With the head teacher away, she starts out alone with a class of forty-five Aboriginal children, ranging in age from five years to thirteen until her marriage to a PWD water supply engineer in 1962.  He had 16 different jobs during their first 6 years of marriage.  They lived in caravans, old shacks and new houses, and Sally had her 3 children up and down the state.  John was in Wyndham in December, during the hottest time of the year. Wendy in Pinjarra in May when there was frost around and then Andrew in Geraldton in April. Come and join us at the library and listen to a story of perseverance and resilience.
