On the 1st of July 2022, Bassendean Memorial Library celebrates its 50th birthday. 50 years of people, books, authors, events, art, history walks, cheese and crackers, maps, Microsoft, singing teapots, crying babies, tired parents and children with shapes and glitter.
We know our building is just a building, but a Library is something else altogether. A Library is a safe space. Sometimes quiet, often noisy, flashy, energetic, and hopefully, illuminating. Our Library is craft, story time, mah-jong, chess, meditation, history talks, kite flying and literary salons. And books. It is a place where people come to find. Bus schedules and poems, remedies, and thrillers. Courses are started, assignments are completed, work is done, bills are paid, tickets are booked, documents are scanned, and information is readily provided. Our library has always been a community space and continues to be so, 50 years on.
On our 50th birthday, in the month of July 2022, Bassendean Memorial Library invites you to come help us celebrate. A pictorial timeline in our foyer, a photo booth to play around in, a guest book to share your thoughts. You can also view our timeline and photos.
