Children's Book Council of Australia have announced the 2019 Notable Books.

Maybe it’s just the sheer scope of themes that have created such an earthy, deep, rich selection of Notable Books in 2019. There is A.J. Betts, The Hive, where people live in interconnected, hexagonal houses; creating a beehive of carefully designated roles. Or The Art of Taxidermy by Sharon Kernot, where the lead character Lottie collects dead creatures and lovingly cares for them, and at the same time tries to forge a link with her dead mother. There are books that slide ice down your spine, such as After the Lights Go Out by Lili Wilkinson and books that let little kids delight in the mad thrill of being naughty like Pig the Grub by Aaron Blabey. Whatever read floats your boat, the 2019 Notable List is not for the fainthearted. It crunches, hollows and then spits out, like all good books
